ETEK’s Secretary General and civil engineer, Andreas Theodotou, emphasized the pressing challenges posed by Cyprus’ ageing residential structures. Mr. Theodotou highlighted that a major contributing factor to structural deterioration is the insufficient maintenance of these properties, especially in multi-owner apartment blocks. The Case for a Building MOT System

In light of these ongoing issues, ETEK has long advocated for legislation mandating periodic engineering inspections of buildings—similar to mandatory vehicle MOT tests. The proposed system would require apartment block management to engage qualified engineers for regular assessments, culminating in an official certificate verifying the building’s condition.
