The Urban Planning Amnesty Scheme, introduced on September 23, 2024, has already received 699 applications aimed at legalizing minor building infringements in already approved developments. This initiative will remain open until March 23, 2025, providing a six-month window for property owners to regularize small-scale deviations such as increased building coefficients, enclosed verandas, and slightly altered boundary distances.
According to the Ministry of the Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Elikkos Elia, most of the 699 submitted applications (616) are related to residential properties, with the remainder spanning commercial, office, industrial, tourism, and other categories. Below is a regional count of applications received by Local Government Organisations:
Elia encourages qualified buyers to submit their applications before the deadline to ensure a smooth process in acquiring final approvals and title deeds. The simplified procedure can be navigated with support from private consultants, making the legalization of minor infringements more attainable.
Applicants are required to pay an application fee to the Special Fund of the Cyprus Land Development Corporation, contributing to the government’s affordable housing initiatives. This measure complements broader efforts to tackle high housing costs and expand accessibility for property seekers.
