The transformation of the historic Berengaria Hotel in Prodromos is making significant progress, as the renovation works continue under the direction of BBF, a prominent developer in the region. BBF is committed to restoring the iconic “Jewel of Prodromos” by the end of 2027, while preserving its listed status.
Andronikos Spyrou, Project Manager at BBF, provided a timeline for the renovation process. The first phase, focusing on emergency repairs, took place from October 2021 to June 2022, with the second phase completed between April and December 2023. The current third phase began in June 2024 and is expected to finish by May 2025. The final phase will commence in June 2025, with completion scheduled for the end of 2027.
During the first two phases, the building’s stone facade was thoroughly cleaned, damaged stone joints were repaired, and concrete reinforcements were applied. The third phase involves replacing the old 1500-square-meter roof with a new one, modeled on the original design and using French-style tiles. Additionally, concrete works inside the listed building are also being finalized.
Neophytos Neophytou, head of the Prodromos Community Council, expressed pride in the renovation project, emphasizing the preservation of the hotel’s cultural heritage. He highlighted the importance of cooperation with official authorities to ensure that the building’s listed status is maintained.
The completion of the Berengaria Hotel renovation will represent a significant achievement for Cyprus, particularly in revitalizing the island’s mountain villages. Once restored, the hotel will offer a unique blend of historic charm and modern luxury, becoming a premier year-round destination for tourists and enhancing Cyprus’s tourism landscape.
