The construction of a monument dedicated to the Greek Revolution of 1821 was completed on Sunday in Paphos. The monument now stands proudly within the town’s municipal garden, symbolizing a significant chapter in Greek history.
Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos expressed his hope that the monument will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations, instilling in them the values and ideals of the great struggle for independence. He emphasized that the monument is meant to convey important messages to modern society, particularly to the youth, encouraging them to reflect on the historical significance of the revolution.
The monument’s design and construction were the result of a collaborative effort. The contract for the project was signed by architect Ioannis Koutsolambros, representing the architectural office of Lambrianos Koutsolambros Architects Ltd. The creative team also included visual artist Katerina Foukara, sculptor Arsentis Lisenkov, and the construction company GM Buildings Ltd.
Architect Koutsolambros explained that the team’s objective was to create a monument that not only commemorates the epic events of the Greek Revolution but also engages visitors in a meaningful way. The monument is designed to be accessible and interactive, allowing visitors, especially children, to explore its various elements and learn from it.
Additionally, the monument features QR codes that visitors can scan to access further information, including texts and other works of art related to the Greek Revolution. This modern integration aims to enhance the educational experience and provide deeper insights into the historical context of the monument.
