It is one of the four exclaves surrounded by the Eastern Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, a British Overseas Territory administered as a Sovereign Base Area. Ormidia was named after the bays on its beach. The church of Agios Konstantinos Alamanos is located in the center of the village. There were two small churches of Agioi Anargyri Kosmas and Damianos.
