This decisive action underscores the Council’s unwavering resolve to stamp out illegal practices. Investigations led to multiple convictions of both individuals and companies, reflecting the significance of upholding lawful property transactions.
Why It Matters
The Council processed hundreds of complaints across every district, highlighting a serious issue affecting the country’s property market. Over 400 criminal cases were filed in 2024 against those contravening estate agents law, demonstrating the Council’s zero-tolerance policy. So far, 90 individuals and 35 legal entities have faced convictions related to 110 separate cases, with more awaiting trial.

To safeguard buyers and sellers, the Council regularly publishes the names of convicted offenders on its official website. Council President Marinos Kineyirou reiterated the importance of verifying an agent’s licensing before engaging in any transactions. Requesting proof, such as an agent’s annual professional license, is a legal right—legitimate professionals will never object. Kineyirou also reminded the public that cooperating with illegal estate agents is itself a criminal offence.

For even more secure transactions, the Council advises visiting its official real estate platform, where listings are managed exclusively by authorized agents.
