Most people researching a move to Cyprus worry about the weather, the tax rules and the property prices. Almost nobody worries about the internet — and that turns out to be a mistake, but not for the reason you would expect.
The internet in Cyprus is genuinely excellent. Fibre reaches roughly 95% of homes on the island, well ahead of the EU average, and the European Commission’s 2026 Digital Decade country report credits Cyprus with extensive fixed gigabit coverage including in rural areas. Gigabit fibre costs €30 a month here.
The mistake is assuming that national coverage means your address is covered, at the speed you need, from the provider you want. Coverage in Cyprus is operator-specific, upload speeds vary widely between technologies, and in apartment blocks an installation can stall on something as mundane as building committee permission. Four operators serve homes across the Republic of Cyprus. All four are active in 2026, and all four sell fibre.
Cyta is the state-owned incumbent and the oldest name on the island, with the broadest legacy network. Note that the old “Cytamobile-Vodafone” brand no longer exists — Cyta now sells mobile under its own name.
Epic is the former MTN Cyprus, rebranded in 2019 and owned by Monaco Telecom. It sells the fastest residential product on the island at 5 Gbps.
Cablenet runs a cable (DOCSIS) network alongside fibre and is a subsidiary of GO plc, the Maltese telecoms group — not Vodafone, a common confusion. GO has committed a further €75 million over five years to upgrade the Cyprus network toward 10 Gbps and expand 5G. In January 2026 Cablenet relaunched its home portfolio with same-day activation and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
PrimeTel is the fourth operator, acquired in 2023 by London-based Signal Capital Partners. It bundles television into its fibre plans by default and also markets same-day activation.
Beyond the big four there is a long tail of smaller wireless, fibre and satellite ISPs, and Starlink is available on the island. These are worth investigating only if the main four cannot reach your address.
Data from OCECPR, the Cyprus telecoms regulator, shows how quickly the island shifted to fibre. As of the most recent published figures, 63.4% of all fixed connections run on fibre, 19.6% on cable and just 17% on xDSL copper — the first time copper has fallen below cable. More telling: 81.5% of all fixed connections in Cyprus run at 100 Mbps or faster, and 4.7% already exceed 1 Gbps.
The practical takeaway is that copper is now the exception, not the fallback. If an address is still on copper in 2026, that is worth knowing before you commit — for reasons the pricing section makes uncomfortably clear.

Three things stand out. Cablenet is the cheapest gigabit on the island at €30 a month — but its 1 Gbps product uploads at only 50 Mbps, a characteristic of cable networks. Cyta and PrimeTel upload at 250 Mbps on the equivalent tier. If you work from home, back up to the cloud or spend your day on video calls, that difference matters far more than the download headline.
Epic’s pricing is built around bundling. The gap between €29.99 and €69.99 for identical service, decided purely by whether you also buy Epic mobile, is the largest price discrimination among the four. Epic also operates a published inflation-adjustment clause, so on its 24-month contracts the advertised price is not fixed for the term.
The 100 Mbps tier has essentially vanished from fibre menus. The entry rung is now 200–300 Mbps. Only legacy copper products still sit at 100 Mbps — and they cost more.
Cyta’s copper price list runs from €31 for 10 Mbps up to €68.40 for 100 Mbps. Its fibre price list offers 1 Gbps for €55.
Read that twice. On copper, 100 Mbps costs €13.40 a month more than gigabit fibre. A household that never checks whether fibre has reached its street can spend years paying a premium for a tenth of the speed. Before you sign anything, check fibre availability at the specific address — not the street, not the village, the address.
All four include a Wi-Fi router at no extra cost. Cablenet charges €2.99 a month for its mesh add-on if you need whole-home coverage in a larger villa.
The baseline requirement is straightforward: an ID card or passport plus a proof of address document. A tenancy agreement or a recent utility bill normally satisfies the second. If you are switching provider rather than connecting fresh, bring last month’s invoice from your previous operator.
Yes — and this is the question newcomers ask most often. Epic’s published terms spell out the mechanism: if you cannot or do not wish to provide proof of permanent residence in the Republic, you provide a refundable guarantee payment of €160 instead, returned when you terminate the service and settle your account. Alternatively you can take a broadband-only package without fixed telephony. Cablenet’s price list carries a comparable €50 contract deposit.
So arriving without a residence permit does not lock you out of a home connection. It may cost you a refundable deposit, and it may exclude you from headline promotional rates, which are often restricted to permanent residents. One caution: no operator we checked requires a Cypriot bank account or local IBAN, and you should not assume one is mandatory.
Cablenet and PrimeTel both actively market same-day activation, and Cablenet backs its home internet with a 30-day try-and-buy guarantee — useful if you have just taken a rental and are not yet sure the property works for you. Where same-day is not available, allow up to a couple of weeks between order and installation.
If you are moving into a flat, there is a step nobody warns you about. Fibre installation in an apartment building starts at the building’s optical distribution frame, and the building’s management committee must grant the technician access to it. Street-level coverage counts for nothing if the committee is slow, absent or unwilling.
Ask before you sign a lease: which operators are already physically connected to this building? A block where two operators are live is a block where you will be online this week. Cyprus performs unusually well here. FTTP coverage reached roughly 95% of homes in 2025, against an EU average near 74%, and the European Commission’s 2026 Digital Decade country report describes extensive fixed gigabit coverage including in rural areas, with 5G coverage fully achieved in 2024.
The alternative operators publish their own reach: PrimeTel states its Home Fiber is available in more than 250,000 homes across Cyprus, and Cablenet’s fibre passes over 235,000 premises. A state-funded programme has been extending very-high-capacity networks into commercially unviable areas, reaching around 40,000 premises by the end of 2025, with deployment scheduled to complete during 2026. Cyprus has committed to 100% gigabit coverage by 2030.
But do not buy a property on the strength of a national average. Coverage is operator-specific and address-specific. The regulator publishes an official coverage atlas at atlas.ee.cy showing fixed coverage and available speeds island-wide, and every operator runs its own address checker. Use the atlas first, then check at least two operators directly.

Cyprus runs a Broadband Connectivity Voucher Scheme through the Department of Electronic Communications, subsidising both the set-up cost and twelve months of subscription for new household connections or upgrades to at least 200 Mbps. The scheme targets 82,000 households, explicitly including remote and rural areas, funded through the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The subsidy applies to natural persons, one connection per installation address. Details are published at gigavoucher.dmrid.gov.cy, and several operators maintain dedicated subsidy pages. One caveat: the scheme sits within Cyprus’s Recovery and Resilience Plan for 2021–2026, so check that it is still open before counting on it.
Internet is not usually included in Cypriot rentals. Like electricity and water, it is normally the tenant’s own contract and own cost, sitting outside the building’s common expenses. Budget it as a separate line — and note that at Cablenet’s €22 for 300 Mbps or PrimeTel’s €24.99 for 200 Mbps plus television, the real figure is often lower than the €30–60 estimate that circulates on relocation sites.

Internet in the areas not under the effective control of the Republic is supplied by entirely different operators, priced in Turkish lira rather than euro. Because EU law is suspended there, EU roaming rules and EU consumer protections do not apply — an EU SIM will roam at international rates. If your property search extends north, treat connectivity as a separate question with separate answers.
Cyprus is in the EU, so roam-like-at-home applies in both directions: an EU SIM works here at domestic rates, and a Cypriot SIM works across the EU, subject to fair-use limits. British visitors should check their own operator, as UK SIMs are generally no longer covered post-Brexit.
Mobile is also a more serious substitute for fixed broadband here than in most countries. Regulator data shows 59.56% of Cypriot mobile contracts carry unlimited data, voice and SMS, with mobile penetration at 163.5% of population. One legal point: prepaid SIM registration is mandatory in Cyprus — unregistered pay-as-you-go numbers get deactivated, so bring your passport when you buy any SIM.
